Almost Done & oh so Pretty

Well, it's almost December and we've started decorating for the holidays.  Can't believe how time has flown this year.  We got a lot accomplished, had some set-backs, and still have lots to do, but the kitchen/living room project is about 95% complete.  We've got some caulking and painting to do (lots, actually) but we've moved back in and are loving it!

The kitchen turned out as good as the visions in my head. Thanks go out to brother-in-law, Todd, Mike from Sheldon's cabinets, Kelly, our GE friend, and our therapists/sounding boards, Scott and Becky.  (Thanks for the advice and keeping us sane and still married through this process.)

The living room and dining area are currently filled with boxes of Christmas decorations, so I'll have to show those pictures later.  Stay tuned . . .

We are so thankful!

Alive & Well in Shoreline

We can’t possibly hope to update all that has gone on in the Oxnevad house the last 10 months, so we’re not going to try.  Hopefully, a post will come on that later.  But, in the mean time, we’re just so excited to share updates about our current house project – the kitchen/upstairs living room.

Here is what the kitchen (from the living room) looked like in August.  The tiny kitchen was completely closed off from the main living space.  Not to mention that the first thing you saw when you walked up the stairs from the front door, was an ugly wall.  Yes, the antique buffet fit nicely, but nothing else did.  (The buffet has found a new home at Scott & Becky’s now that we don’t have a wall for it.)

Already into demo, but you can still see the vinyl floors, old appliances, old everything. . . it all had to go!

The kitchen today – obviously not done, but significant progress has been made.  We’re loving the natural maple cabinets and can lighting.  New oak flooring was “weaved” into the existing and refinished.  After testing multiple paint samples on the walls, we finally settled on Windsor Greige by Sherwin Williams – love it!  Honed black granite goes in next week and then hopefully the finishing touches.  Can’t wait to show off the finished product.  Our new space will be so great for our family.

Progress

7 months later, we’re finally ready to show some pics of the house and the basement.  While it’s still a work in progress, we’re really happy with how it’s coming along.

IMG_0486 New front door paint – Sherwin Williams Cascades. It’s only temporary because when we get rid of the awful aluminum siding or at least paint it, we’ll need a new door color.

IMG_1175 What you see now at the bottom of the stairs – refresh your memory by looking at the older post of “before” pictures.

IMG_1178 Ian’s room – bedroom #4.

IMG_1176 Eric’s office; which now includes a window and a closet – so therefore bedroom #5!

IMG_1181 And now the other side!  We love this space!

IMG_1180 The fireplace still needs some work, but remember what it looked like before?

IMG_1184 View from the other side.  I’m loving the warm greenish, gray walls - (SW Grassland.)  Tanner told me he was tired of all the yellow in our old house, so I’ve been steering clear of the yellow – it’s been hard, though.  Fortunately, we’re doing his room in Purple & Gold, so I’ll get a little yellow after all.

IMG_1182New wet bar – we’re still debating what to do above it.  My vote is for open shelving, Eric wants some upper cabinets.  Hence, nothing.

IMG_1183  Amazing what a few coats of paint on unfinished oak cabinets can do – still need to add knobs & pulls.

IMG_1185 New bathroom, with 48” shower to the right.

IMG_1139 Upstairs; no major changes other than clearing boxes and dust.  “Recycled” sofa & chair from Scott & Becky. (It saddens me to say it, but the pink couches are in the landfill – Goodwill wouldn’t even take them!)  Hopefully, we’ll get some wall color this winter.  I’m having a hard time finding the right warm, beigey, gray.  And hopefully I’ll get to take a sledgehammer to the wall the buffet is on one of these days, because that’s where my new gorgeous, kitchen island is going!

Raining in Cooperstown

Who would have thought that we would travel all the way across the country to have our games post-poned by rain - only in 2011!
We went 1-1 yesterday and were up 4-2 in the bottom of the 4th with the bases loaded when the game was halted. I am still sitting in my apartment back in town waiting for news. It is now 7 pm and we still need to finish that 11 am game and then play another game that was supposed to have started at 4:30. Crazy!!

Game 2 Heartbreaker

Our Richmond All-Stars lost game 2 by a final of 11-9 against North Central.  Tanner hit a 3-run homerun in the bottom of the sixth inning to start a comeback rally, but the team fell short.  We play again tonight at 6pm against Northshore.

Our All-Star Season Has Begun

As other district tournaments are finishing up, we are just now getting going.
Our Richmond Majors started strong yesterday with a win over RUG – made up of the Roosevelt, University District, and Greenlake neighborhoods of Seattle.
Tanner caught for 3 innings and played third for 1, in the 4-inning, mercy-rule shortened game.

Final Score:  Richmond 22, RUG 1

We play North Central at noon today.

Basement Update Day 13

Framing is done; now we’re working on heating, electrical and plumbing.
