WASHINGTON STATE LITTLE LEAGUE TOURNY

Win or lose, participating in the state tournament in the majors division is a once in a lifetime experience. A lot of kids play little league baseball, but not all of them get to say they've been to state. Even fewer make it to regionals and then the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. For me, growing up in Kirkland, Washington where in the early 80's our Kirkland National LL sent 2 teams to Williamsport, and 1 of them won the whole thing, I understand what a wonderful tradition and a big deal this is to some 12-year-old boys and their families. We are thrilled that we get the opportunity to participate in this amazing event.

The Washington State Tournament officially kicked off on Friday with opening ceremonies being held in Port Orchard. Our gang arrived, via the Edmonds-Kingston Ferry, and ran onto Art Mikelsen Field, representing District 8. Unfortunately, our banner had been left at home in Shoreline. Oh well. Mike Sweeney of the Seattle Mariners threw out the ceremonial first pitch and took a few minutes to speak to the boys. He spoke on running the RACE to the finish line (the state championship) with R-respect, A-attitude (positive), C-competition, and E-effort. He was very generous with his time, as he shook hands with and signed autographs for the kids.
We had the day off Saturday, as District 8 had a first round bye.

Yesterday, we faced a tough Bainbridge Island team and left Port Orchard with a 0-4 defeat; the first time our team has gone scoreless. The tournament is double-elimination, so we are still in it, but will need to do it the long way again through the "losers" bracket. But, we've been there before and know that it can be done.

DISTRICT 8 CHAMPS!!!!

They did it! After a first game loss, our Richmond Majors won 8 straight games to win the District 8 championship. Ian had a great game, hitting a 2-run homerun in the bottom of the first, and then clocking an RBI double in the second. It's on to the State Tournament in Port Orchard.

Tanner's All-Star Season

Hi this is Tanner. This year was my favorite all-star year because I got to meet new friends and it was a lot of fun. Even though we only played three games, like last year, everybody still had a lot of fun. I hope next year is going to be fun too, and hopefully we can play a lot more games.
Tanner's 10-11 year-old team was eliminated from the tournament yesterday by Northshore.

The Boys of Summer

Ian standing on second after a RBI double in the bottom of the second. We went on to beat Northlake 10-2.

Tanner's in ready position at third. He had a single in the top of the second and came around to score the tying run. Unfortunately, his team lost a hard fought game against Northeast 3-4.

There's No Crying in Baseball

But, boy do we want to. . .

We swallowed a tough one last-night, with a walk-off grand slam by Northshore (who we lost to in the championship game last year), with 2 outs and 2 strikes on the batter. OUCH!!!

On the bright side, Tanner's team went out and took care of Woodinville West, with a 10-5 victory.

Happy 4th - are you ready for some baseball? WE ARE!!

Last Day of School Paintball

School's out and we're already packing up the vans and suburbans and hauling the kids around. As soon as school got out on Wednesday, June 24th, we headed north to Doodlebug Sportz for some paintballing. The newly "graduated" fourth and sixth graders joined forces to compete at the indoor complex and had a great time. Fortunately, the gang sustained only a few minor injuries (i.e. welts) and there were no casualties. They're already asking when they can go again!
